Storage Conditions

Temperature: Storing THRIVE at a high temperature can significantly increase the speed that calories and vitamins will degrade over time. In the correct storage container, low-moisture foods such as THRIVE can be stored at room temperature or cooler (75 degrees Fahrenheit or lower) and remain nutritious and edible for years. Our stated shelf life assumes that the product will be stored in optimal conditions.

Humidity: The effects of humidity on a closed can are caused by heat and very similar to the effects of high temperature (see above). High humidity can corrode the cans and in some cases even cause the cans to leak. Areas with high humidity can reduce the opened shelf life of the product. As humidity varies with location please use your own discretion to prevent possible sickness from eating spoiled food.

Damaged Container: Minor dents in the center of the can are usually just a cosmetic issue. However, a can that has been dented near or on a seam can have a compromised air-tight seal and allow oxygen to enter the can. If this is the case we recommend using the dented can within the specified opened shelf life, rather than closed.

The best way to maintain the highest quality of your THRIVE products is to take care of them. If you intend on storing your food for the sealed shelf life, store the cans in a place that is not open to elements such as water, light, and air. Take care of it. Don't expose it unnecessarily to the elements. Also, be sure to keep the temperature and humidity low and even. Under these proper storing situations your THRIVE will maintain its delicious taste, natural coloring, and proper nutrients.

  1. Pretty good for a powder

I use 1/2 water and 1/2 milk when mixing for scrambled eggs, be sure to mix well until it has the consistency of regular scrambled eggs.
For baking just sift the egg powder in with your other dry ingredients, I can't tell a difference in taste or cooking.
Haven't purchased eggs in several months thanks to this long lasting powder.

  2. A Must Have

If you are a camper you must have these eggs; they require no refrigeration. If your kids love to eat cookie dough you must have these eggs; no problem with salmonella. I you love fritatas and omelets you must have these eggs; they are so fluffy and yummy. If you love to bake you must have these eggs; I have made cakes, cookies, banana breads and they are wonderful. You can either put the dry powder with the dry ingredients and the water with the moist or you can mix the powder and water together and add as an egg. Fantastic product!

  3. Surprisingly Good!

I heard that this egg powder was great for cooking, but I was curious to see how it would taste to make scrambled eggs out of them. They were great! EXACT texture of real eggs when reconstituted with the correct amount of water, and I added some TVP ham into them as well. My husband is pretty picky, but he said they were good even though they tasted slightly different. Made egg sandwiches from the leftovers! Yum

  4. Very Good! Impressive!

I enjoyed the powdered eggs! Excellent taste. I purchased them to use in pancakes, cakes, breads, waffles, and other recipes that call for eggs. Although, I am sure they are great cooked and eaten as eggs. I used them in hamburgers last week instead of cracking a fresh egg open for the hamburgers. I didn't add any extra water and the hamburgers turned out delicious!

  5. Great

I just got my order and had to try the eggs scrambled. I must say they are good. I really was so supprised and don't think I will ever by fresh eggs again. Thanks so much

  6. Smaller than normal eggs, flavor is good, easy and quick to use

They say it has over 250 eggs in each #10 can, which I'm sure is the measurement when substituting powdered eggs for baking, but if you want to scramble them, 1 Tablespoon of powder and 2 Tbsp of water is a much smaller serving than a normal fresh egg.

Through trial and error I found that to serve my 2 children scrambled eggs for breakfast I need to use a half cup of powder and about a cup of water. Some water will cook out and need to be drained.

They taste like powdered eggs, which is no surprise since they are! But anyone who has been in the army, or frequented hotel breakfast buffets, knows that there are different levels of quality with powdered eggs. These are better than most.

I doubt they can be used easily to make omlettes, quiches, souflees and certain other dishes.

However, as someone who values ease of use and time not wasted, I plan to use these eggs instead of buying fresh eggs for my scrambling and baking needs.

Other things I like: they don't rot, they don't require refrigeration or take up refrigerator space (or cooler space for camping).

  7. excellent for camping

I will never pack fresh (highly breakable) eggs for camping trips again. These are every bit as good and you can't break powdered eggs.

  8. you have to try this!

I was very happy with the eggs. A #10 can is 19 dozen of eggs. When you figure it out it is a little over 3 dozen eggs a month....who doesn't use that!

  9. Excellent!!

I used these eggs in Natalie's pancake recipe - they are so good that I made more than one batch already! My next use was in egg scramble with the potato dices, onion & green/red pepper - delicious! These are also great to use with one or two fresh eggs that need to be rotated out. I just added additional milk to thin it out a bit, and they came out nice & fluffy! Yum! Oh, by the way, since there are only two of us, the pantry can is just right.

  10. Better than I dreamed ...

I had read several reviews on these eggs, and so I went ahead and purchased them, assuming I could use them in cooking if they didn't pan out.

Incredibly, both my husband and I enjoyed the scrambled eggs (with just salt and pepper), although I particularly enjoyed making an omelet with the Bacon TVP, cheddar cheese, a few onions, and the bell peppers.

But where they shone was in the pancakes I made. They were the lightest, fluffiest pancakes I have ever made, and I would purchase these just for cooking.

Fortunately, I purchased 2 of the pantry sized cans - I chose the pantry size, because of the time limit once these are opened (there's only 2 of us, so a larger can would be simply too large!).

    Nice choice ...

  11. Okay scrambled, great in everything else!

I do not really like these by themselves as scrambled eggs; my husband and children like them just fine scrambled, though. I have used them in other baking and cooking and they are wonderful! I made rolls the other day, but I halved the recipe ... which meant that I only needed half an egg. How do you divide one egg? Well, that wasn't a problem when using egg powder! It was awesome!

  12. Impressed

I tried these out with some skepticism. I'm a believer now. These work great for scrambled eggs, omelets, breads, cookies, etc. And super easy to use!

  13. I'm a skeptic

A friend asked for eggs for German pancakes. When I mentioned I only had my THRIVE eggs they weren't interested. I decided to try them for myself and see if they would work. I was astonished at the taste and look! They work just like a real egg, I am very impressed. Now with confindence I can offer them to those in need.

  14. Great Product Overall

When I first bought the powdered eggs it was after reading the reviews here that they make good scrambled eggs. I have a long time aversion to powdered eggs but thought these may be different. They are. They are absolutely great in cooking and baking. (Thanks Marathon Mom for conversion!!) I still cannot make truly good scrambled eggs but I am still working on a usable recipe. I am relatively close to a great omelette and frittata I never give up.

  16. Far better than expected!

I couldn't believe how good everyone said this was, so I had to try it out myself: Used dry in a muffin recipe--great! Used reconstituted in more recipes (ie. pancakes, cookies)--terrific! Used to make omelet & scrambled eggs--fantastic! Added sausage crumbles and cheese to the scrambled eggs--AWESOME!!! WOW, we're definitely cooking with this regularly! Worth every penny!

  18. Overwhelming Smell

Eggs - the smell is a little overwhelming upon opening the can and mixing the power; once added to something or starting to cook the smell is much more tolerable; otherwise excellent product

  19. Very good product for what it is.

I am a cook by trade and gone to culinary school so I expect a lot out the products I cook with. I have tried several different powdered eggs over the years and spit them ALL out. Disgusting stuff. To bake with any powdered egg is ok, but my test is straight up scrambled with salt and pepper. I was very surprised by these eggs. The taste is only very slightly different but nothing to complain about for what it is. Adding any type of milk or powdered milk only enhances them. If I added sausage, onions, cheese, etc I could honestly say I would not know these were powdered eggs. My wife even agreed they were good. If we ever got to a point where we did not have fresh eggs for months this would be a welcome addition to my food storage system. A+ from me.

  20. What a Great Surprise!

I couldn't believe it when I first stated these eggs! They are awesome. We have them scrambled, as omlettes, and use them in baking. The kids can finally help out with the eggs when I make cookies because I don't have to worry about salmonella anymore. I've made a great potato, mixed bell pepper, and FD sausage scramble all in 2 minutes! (All with THRIVE products, too)

  21. What a Great Surprise!

Our family loves these eggs!! We eat them all the time scrambled, in omlettes and in baking. I was so surprised how delicious they were and I actually perfer them to fresh eggs. My kids can now help me make cookies and I don't have to worry about salmonella or who gets to "crack" the egg this time. It's just 1TB = 1 Egg. So easy.

  22. Good Scrambled Eggs

When I first purchased these eggs I was unsure if they could be used for "straight scrambled eggs" as opposed to using them for eggs in a recipe. I called Shelf Reliance and they were not sure either... I gave it a try and got a "thumbs up" from my family. We started out pretty plain, but I could easily see these being used with green/red peppers, mushrooms, bacon tvp, etc. Give it a try!
